How to run for election in the Yukon

Candidate Eligibility

You must be an eligible elector.
- a Canadian citizen,
- and have lived in the Yukon for 12 months before polling day

There are four items for candidates to meet to have their names appear on the ballot paper:

You must get a nomination paper from:
1. the Returning Officer in the electoral district in which you intend to be a candidate OR
2. from the Elections Yukon website at https://electionsyukon.ca/en.
You must submit a nomination paper to the Returning Officer. This will be in the electoral district you intend to be a candidate in. It is due on Nomination Day (Day 10 of the election period), before 2:00 p.m. but do not wait until the last minute.
A $200 nomination deposit and a registered political party's endorsement letter. If applicable, it must be with your nomination paper.
You need to appoint an official agent who:
1. consents to the appointment to receive campaign contributions,
2. pay bills, and file the Election Financing Return required by the Act

Candidate Nomination Package

You do not have to live in the electoral district where you file a nomination paper.

It is your responsibility:

to file a nomination paper in only one district during an election.
to determine if you are eligible to participate in the Legislative Assembly of Yukon under any Act.
